This is part 2 of Lipsticks for Every Era! In case you missed part 1 go here and to fill you in read below. Enjoy!

A very good friend of mine, Marlena, is a Hollywood make-up artist that runs around town beautifying one celeb at a time. I thought it would be fun to ask her to recommend a shade of lipstick that represents every era for those of us who LOVE vintage. In each era Marlena explains what shade of lipstick to use and why it works. Pick your favorite era of clothing you like to wear and attached is the shade that best emcompasses it. Have fun! (Part 1 includes 1920s-1950s, part two will contain 1960s-1990s)

Marlena: My name is Marlena Robbins and I am a Los Angeles based make-up artist. When asked by Chanelle to give my best recommendations for lipstick shades for ever era of clothing I was extremely inspired and excited to work on a little collection for you. I chose MAC shades because it's what I mostly work with and it was their lipsticks that jump started the company to beauty industry fame.  I hope you enjoy!

Makeup in the 1960's changed completely and along with fashion and hair trends, makeup trends were in transition as well. In the beginning of the decade brows continued to get thicker and liner was as bold as ever, eyes in general were more defined. As for lips, it went one of two ways....either you went a redish/orangey route or flipped it and wore a softer pink lipstick shade. Midway through the decade peace and love became a popular way of life and with that also came a trend in makeup color with natural/nude tones. My favorite colors for this era are "Chili" for that redish/orangey look, "Twig" for a softer pink look, or "Myth" for a more natural/nude look. The lipsticks vary in finish from matte to slightly glossy. Whether your heading to Woodstock or going to a party with some Mad Men....you'll capture this decade with any of those lipstick colors!

The 1970's brought us a whole new era of fashion and beauty. Bell-bottoms and platforms were introduced as well as glitter, glitter and you guessed it, more glitter. Makeup was either a light look with natural tones (think Ali MacGraw) or disco fever. Brows took a back seat in this decade which means looks were focused on light eyes and light lips or bold, shiny eyes and shiny lips. My favorite lipstick colors for this era are "Cherish" for the natural look or "New York Apple" and "Bombshell" for the girl getting ready for a night out on the town. All lipsticks have either a slightly shiny finish or a frosted finish, but for the brighter colors I would also add a gloss with glitter in it for a more dramatic look. There wasn't one women at a disco in the 70's that wasn't covered in shine and glitter on her clothes and on her face!

The 1980's were all about being bold with lots of color both in clothing and in makeup, the brighter and bolder the better! Thick eyebrows, bright eyes and even brighter lips were all apart of the everyday look. My favorite lipsticks to replicate this era are "Pink Nouveau" and "Rebel". Both with a shiny finish and bright tone. I would even add a gloss on top of them to add to the boldness of this look.

The 1990's did a complete 180 from the 80's. Trends in clothing and in makeup took a more subdued route, eyeshadow and lipstick colors moved to the matte/natural family but bold eyebrows still stayed in trend. To try and look like your own version of Cindy Crawford or Naomi Campbell I would use either "Taupe" or "Mocha" lipstick. Both have a fairly matte finish with a brown tone in color which will give that dramatic look that the 1990's makeup was all about. Remember: Don't mistake naturals for light tones!
