Halloween

Market Publique Halloween Costumes

As I promised on my last blog post, here are the photographs of my completed Halloween costume!  I decided to nix the flame design for a good ol' fashion Harley Davidson decal.  The costume held up surprisingly well.

What do you think of my working headlight...

And taillights?!

Traci's Take on Halloween Haute Couture

Greetings guys and ghouls!  Happy (almost) Halloween!  Some of you may have been wondering, "who's this Traci girl on the Market Publique Blog," so I wanted to take some time to introduce myself!  That's me, up there, with the rad MP pumpkin.  I joined the Market Publique team back in September when the Three Musketeers realized they needed to add a marketing guru to their mix who adores vintage as much as they do.  Clearly, I'm their girl!  And when Pamela asked me to model for the site last Friday (::blush::), I couldn't resist.  So be sure to keep an eye out for more of me on Market Publique posing in plush sweaters, gorgeous vintage furs and more!!

So yes, I'm a lover of all things vintage.  And all things fashion, really.  Mixing and matching modern houses with vintage finds puts a big ol' smile on my face, as does getting all dressed up for Halloween.  It's pretty much my favorite holiday.  I make my costume each year (yes, I sew, but don't expect to see me in a kitchen),  and this year was quite the undertaking, my biggest project yet.  Remember George Michael's "Too Funky" video?  Ohh yes, that one;)  The whole runway show was designed by Thierry Mugler, whom I absolutely adore.  His broad shoulders, crazy collars and influences—such as robots, insects, and film noir—made his pieces very distinct and very of the moment.  He expanded his house to include a fragrance collection (yes, I wear Angel from time to time), and also has collaborated with Cirque de Soleil.  He was the main costume designer for Beyonce's last tour.  Check out this amazing Thierry Mugler cocoon coat on Market Publique

I'm gonna be THIS chick:

I can't wait to shake my booty and wiggle my handlebars!  Since my welding skills are pretty subpar (joke), I sewed a corset out of red faux leather material. I ordered motorcycle grips online, sewed some fringe on faux leather shorts from American Apparel, and hand-painted the flame details.  The light is a working moon light that most people use in their closets:)  The corset is boned from the outside, and detailed with aluminum tape (very fragile to work with in this context—it rips and folds so easily!).  The deadstock Harley Davidson mirrors I ordered are too heavy to be supported by the corset, so I had to improvise with an old compact.

I'll post pictures from my Halloween weekend next week so you can compare my costume with the one above.

Happy Halloween everybody!

Recap: Vintage & Bloggers Meetup - Halloween DIY Mini Meetup

Market Publique Halloween Meetup

Last Wednesday Market Publique opened its studio up for a mini crafting party. People came for a dose of DIY to finish their Halloween costumes or carve a pumpkin.

Mondrian Tights DIY

De-Stijl-It-Yourself: Anne handpaints tights à la Piet Mondrian. Read what she has to say about her project.

She carefully applied primary colors to her hand-drawn grid to pay homage to the great Bauhaus painter for Halloween.

Jenni from Daily Work It

Jenni from Daily WorkIt came looking for pieces to add to her Roller-Derby Blair Waldorf costume.

vintage gloves

She found a couple of pairs of white gloves for it, but couldn't decide which to pick. She posted this photo on Fashism and asked away... Go see which ones she picked!

brooke, pamela, anne

Jenni also snapped a pic of Brooke, me and Anne. Don't you love Anne's vintage United Airlines scarf? That girl always has the BEST accessories! They all mentioned this little poll I had on the blog a while ago, and how nary an outfit picture has been published. So take this as a faux outfit photo. This is what I wore:

- Vintage Leaf Dress from Strim Vintage

- Vintage Black Mila Schön Belt

- Unknown Black Tights

- Vintage Bally Black Boots

outfit

Speaking of Fashism, Brooke came and rifled through our bags of free clothes, which up for grabs to add to your Halloween costume - or in her case, 'Halloween during the day', as she found an awesome mod-inspired skirt and a gray wool cropped cape. Lucky gal!

vintage faux fur coat

I sewed buttons to a vintage faux fur leopard print coat for my upcoming Halloween costume. Can you guess who I'm gonna be? (If you already know because I told you... shhhh).

pumpkin party

Jon and and Tavo carved a few pumpkins.

Tavo made a smoking alien...

mp pumkin

Jon made the MP pumpkin which now festively adorns the studio, as well as our Twitter icon.

Thank you everyone for coming! And sorry this Meetup didn't get posted on the blog... We only have a few chairs in the studio, so we kept it small and wanted the members of our Meetup group to have priority - so join the group to be kept in the loop for future events. And don't you worry, the next one will be bigger, similar to the Margarita Monday!
