Outfit - New Year's Eve

Dress, vintage from Franny & Roey

Tights, unknown

Shoes, Marc by Marc Jacobs

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, I'm really into velvet for the holiday season. It's warm, soft and cuddly, but unlike a snuggie, it's still festive and dressy. So for New Year's Eve I opted for this tiny velvet vintage number I found at Franny & Roey.

vintage velvet and rhinestones

It was on the window, and I instantly had to try it. I loved how the dark inky velvet was contrasted with the silver  & gold trim and multi-colored rhinestones. I also loved that it has extra-mini - perfect for a night out. And as a bonus: it has pockets!! ROCK ON.

I paired it with my trusty black tights (I have at least 20 pairs, so I will never know where they came from) and shiny, shiny patent leather shoes from Marc by Marc Jacobs I got at Saks Fifth Avenue.

New Year's Resolution - Outfit Posts?

So it's common knowledge that I am reluctant to take outfit photos for the blog. This is evidenced by not only a lack of outfit photos, but also the results of this poll, and then the subsequent shameful lack of outfit photos...

There's several reasons for that, but usually the outfit part is not the problem, as I getting dressed is one of my favorite parts of the day. The problem is that I am a bit camera shy - and that outfit photos (decent ones, at least) take FOREVER to take. It's really an acquired skill, on both sides of the lens.

I really would love to share my style, because I love other bloggers who share theirs and they have really inspired me and many of my outfits. Some of my absolute favorite internet fashionistas, for example, are Susie Bubble, Jennine of The Coveted, Wendy B., Jennifer from Sally Jane, Shae of Everything Style, and Audrey of Homerun Ballerina.

So this New Year, I'm committing to at least a few outfit photos. I know, I know, that's not that much of a commitment. Okay, one a week? Two a week? We'll have to test it out to see. Thankfully, I now have Kate's help, our fabulous new photography intern. We decided to get a jump start in the New Year with some outfit photos taken right before I left for the holidays. She was very encouraging and made me smile despite of my fear of pigeons (see below).

We decided to also take photos of her outfit and Keiko's outfit! Keiko, who shares the Market Publique studio with us, and is one of our best customers. Since she's here every day, she gets to see the new (vintage) pieces before anyone else and even before they get phtographed - and who can resist vintage first dibs?

So, without further ado, our fist outfit photos of the year! Let us know what you think! Comment on the outfit all you want, give us tips on how to take a better photo, what you love, what you hate. .. Be nice though. After all, we're just getting started.

I braved the cold without a coat for just a few minutes. You can see I'm freezing by the scared look in my face - I'm also scared those damn pigeons are going to poop at me, but Kate said there was good light here, so I'm trying to be a good sport....

The deets:

Vintage Equestrian Skirt, Lullie Vintage

Vintage Brown Snakeskin Belt, Market Publique

Ahh! The pigeons! Heh- at least I managed a smile. For the record, I hate pigeons. They're gross.

initial ring

A detail of my initial ring, the equestrian print on my skirt (this is one of my faves!), and a tiny peek at my snakeskin belt.

draped shoulders

I love the blouse because it has this ballerina neckline and draped shoulders. Here you can see it without the scarf. It's also super soft and very affordable. You can get it here

Keiko and I hanging at the office

Keiko and I hanging at the office. She wears a vintage oversized sweater and snakeskin boots from Market Publique. Oh how I wish those boots had fit me!! I'm glad they found a good home.

Kate Sims wearing vintage

Kate, our awesome photographer, kept in casual in a vintage plaid poncho and perfectly paired denim. Thanks for the photos Kate!

I'm glad some of the girls in the office joined me for this outfit post. I'm definitely less shy when I have company.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
