It's been a while already, but we just realized we never showed you photos of our 1st anniversary party at SXSW! Blame it on all the partying we did in Austin, and the exhaustion that comes from days and days of free beer and shows - poor us, right?
We had so much fun, so thank you so much to everyone who came out at our 1st Anniversary party!!
It was great to see everyone, and a big thank you to Paper Garden Records for setting up such a rad band lineup.
Saturday ended up being a super-windy day in Austin, much cooler than any day that week... bummer! So I had to wear a cardigan over my new vintage dress and brave the winds... Here I am, walking through Austin alleyways, sign in hand, braving the gusts of wind coming my way...
I also wore the fringe wedges I got at Girl Next Door. I loved them when I saw them during the New Media Fashion brunch, but despite the 20% discount and the multiple champagne glasses, I still couldn't pull the trigger. After much Twitter debate with Grechen (of Grechen's Closet), I decided to go for it! And I'm so glad I did: they are super comfortable and perfect for concert-going.
But now to the more important things - the pictures!
Brooklyn band The Loom started off the day with some great tunes at Parkside. We all grabbed bloody marys and margaritas to get ready for some racuous partying.
With Boshra of SAADI, Heidi of Paper Garden Garden Records and Damien of Peasant
A big shout out to my best friend Frank and his girlfriend Katie, who helped me out with the signage, transportation, lodging and all sorts of fun-hanving. You guys are amazing!!!!
Fashism hosted a great party at Dress Shop during SXSW. We all came over to try adorable dresses and have a few drinks, and relax after many-a-panel. The outfit above is what I originally wore to the party, but there was many dresses to choose from and change your look...
I love these shoes. Yes, they are crazy. That's why I love them.
I tried on this painterly print halter dress and fell in love. I am tempted to buy it but am still awaiting the results of what people at Fashism thought about it...
Vote here and help me decide if I should get the dress!
I also tried this tiered ruffle dress, but I think it's too frilly for me... thoughts?
Sequins are one of the biggest trends this season, on and off the runway, and as evidenced by all the magazines. And why not? They can take you from day-to-night in a flash, and add some sparkle to a basic outfit. Plus, when the holidays roll around, who doesn't want to be drenched in sequins?
Whether it's a little shiny accessory as an accent, or full-blown glitz, we have some vintage options from Market Publique:
Tuesday night I went back to B.East for more Fashion Week fun at the Chictopia / Six Six Sick party sponsored by Forever 21. I wouldn't have missed it, as I won a bike on Chictopia and had to say a proper thank you, but it was not an easy day for me.
The day started with some recovery from bubbly and nachos debauchery after the IFB party. The recovery included a ying & yang brunch of green veggie juice (cucumbers, kale, green apples & ginger) and a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich on a roll, both courtesy of Kasia's. Then off to the office it was, to interview some interns for Market Publique: we have some excellent contenders! More on that soon...
Then I packed a bunch of our Fall vintage items, and headed to the Pop-Up Vintage Trunk Show, hosted by Meghann of Thrifty Fashionista, where we were selling our wares (sad I missed seeing Wendy again!) Somehow, in the process of digging through piles of vintage, I lost my keys so I had to go rendez-vous with the hubby to make sure I could get back into my house.
This included going to the Next NY Shake Shack extravaganza, then dinner with a certain member of the NY State Senate. It was really great to get a rest from all the fashion stuff and get a chance to have a meal with the hubby. But then again, breaks from fashion are painful, and the Chictopia party awaited. My secret spy tweeted me with updates as I headed over...
Needless to say, I didn't get a chance to change and wear the fabulous outfit I had planned, being locked out and busy and all. Instead, I wore what I had been wearing all day, which honestly was not so bad. I wore: a vintage jungle print Diane von Furstenberg silk blouse that I got from Cure Thrift at the Market Publique Pop-Up Shop, black skirt by Quail, vintage red Garolini bow peeptoe slingbacks and my Valentino Histoire bag (which I think it's too fancy but now feel Iike I have to wear a lot so as to not feel guilty...).
I didn't stay long, but did join up with Liz, Jennine, Jeanne, Mel and Nikki. Plus I finally met Susie and had a chance to talk to Helen from Chictopia, Jess from Polyvore, and Phil from Streetpeeper. Awesome! We later went to dinner in the LES with Jennine, Jeanne and Liz to decompress and chat a bit more quietly. Fun times!
The IFB Dress Up Soirée was the funnest ever! I know funnest is not a real word, but I think it should be, so there. I knew the party was going to be a blast, judging from the last one, but it really did exceed my expectations.
It was jam-packed with bloggers galore, including most of my favorites! I met so many fabulous people and saw so many fabulous outfits.
I was a little late, and ran out without my camera, so I have grabbed the photos from other bloggers, which I will credit, of course. Pardon me for the lack of original photos! Also, my lateness prevented me from getting a good spot for the panel, so I barely heard most of it, and therefore I will not report on it. Next time, I plan to sleep in my outfit the night before so I am realy at all times.
The party was PACKED. There was a line around the block when I showed up, but I found Nikki and Mel and we waited in line together makeing the time fly by. There was no space upstairs to listen to the panel anymore, so I was downstairs attempting to hear and hanging out with Charissa of Purple Bliss (that's us in the corner...). Photo via Thumbelina
Closeup of Charissa's and my outfits - plus Jen! I wore a vintage 80s black dress with an open back and pockets, Rhinestone fish skeleton earrings by Elizabeth Cole, vintage silver clutch and black multi-strap mary janes by Christian Louboutin. Photo via Purple Bliss.
2. She made this party happen, and thus brought all of us together IRL.
3. She decided to wear vintage from Market Publique to the Dress Up Soirée.
Jennine came to our FNO Pop-Up Shop and fell in love with the vintage red and black Jean Paul Gaultier silk tunic she is wearing (it has cutouts at the hem!), the little red vintage beret, and multiple vintage deadstock bracelets from Erica Weiner. She added how own jacket, leggings and shoes and we loved the look! Thank you for wearing Market Publique Jennine!!
You can see more of Jennine's outfit here, with Wendy and Gilda of Queen Gilda. Photo via Wendy B.
After the party was winding down, we stepped outside to plan our next move and Wendy took a picture of my shoes - thanks Wendy! Now I get to keep the shoes forever! YAY!
We decided to start an after party a couple blocks up at White Star. Loved hanging out with all the fabulous ladies who came, including Alix of Alix Rose, Sara Anissipour, Jennine, Jordana and more.
It was a lot of fun! So much so, that Wendy and I decided we deserved nachos at 2 a.m. so we headed to the hat* San Loco and shared some crispy chips, favorite vintage designers, and random thoughts about 14-year-old fashion bloggers (among other things).
*The hat was closed. Too bad, because they have to-go Margaritas!
Hey everyone! To all who are planning on going to the Fashism launch party, it has been moved to Wednesday! Plus it's now at Dressing Room, how appropriate!
We partied, shopped vintage, sipped bubbly and nibbled on cupcakes - what more could one want?!!
The shop featured items from Market Publique's Fall collection, including some hand-picked by the bloggers at Painfully Hip during their thrifting trip. We had tons of blazers, sweaters, dresses, scarves, shoes, boots, purses... plus we featured jewelry by Erica Weiner and Dirty Librarian Chains, housewares and more fashion from Cure Thrift Shop (which benefits diabetes research), and exclusive vintage pieces from Rabbits, some of which will soon be up on the site!
Bianca, from Cure Thrift Shop and Bianca Rocks Out, helped me set up the shop and also made a fun video of the event:
We snapped some photos too, for your viewing pleasure...
Shoppers browsing the vintage goodies.
Some of our vintage shoes, with deadstock vintage shoe clips by Erica Weiner, whose jewelry you can see to the side.
Cure Thrift Shop's housewares and accessories table. That spotted fur clutch is now mine! No guilt, since the fur is vintage and the purchase benefits diabetes research too!
More shoppers, including Brooke from Fashism, sipping bubbly. She made like a banding with an amazing leather skirt...
It was a super-fun bracelet made out vintage baubles and buttons, the perfect accent to my outfit. I wore it straight out of the box! Thanks Amanda!!
Like the rest of my outfit too? The vintage cropped sequin top is the one I got from Sammy Davis Vintage! The little gold vintage clutch was also my cash register - which one shopper dubbed as "the most stylish cash register I've ever seen", blush! The skirt is 3.1 Phillip Lim and the shoes are Marc by Marc Jacobs (scroll down for pic), from 9 years ago!!
With fashion bloggers Jennine, of The Coveted, and Jordana of Clutch 22. Thank you, Jennine for the awesome post about our Fashion's Night Out event! The photos she took are amazing, go look! I also like this one, which she took:

Here I am, laughing it up with Jennine. She's a lot of fun, and I get to hang out with her a bunch this NYFW... You'll see the pictures soon...Plus, a better look at my shoes and the adorable bracelet from Access Aesthetic.
Sammy (of Sammy D Vintage) was in attendance too. Since I wore one of her vintage pieces, she decided to don a few of ours: the pleated black blouse and the lipstick-red leather skirt. Doesn't she look fabulous?
Well, the sad news is that the tricycle did not make it to my birthday...
Last Monday, when I was coming back from yoga, I noticed it was GONE. M.I.A. Pooooooof! As I hovered closer to the pole where I had it locked up, I saw my chain and my now-clipped lock. The bastards!!!
I called the police and filed a report. They will be on the lookout. Whomever decided to steal a vintage tricycle is not only mean, but an idiot:
A) It's vintage, so there's not that many like it... much less in the same geographical area.
B) Who the fuck rides a tricycle except for me and some lil' ol' grandmas?
Well. I did what everyone else would do: I tweeted furiously. And, yeah, I cried a little (so, what?)
The search is still on for vintage trike #1 - which I will now name Gunny (in honor of Jon's old cat, and well, because it's GONE-y). If you see it around town, please punch the rider in the face. Then tweet me the location. Before punching the rider in the face, just make sure I'm not the rider... that would be bad.
As the two rational human beings that we sometimes are, Jon and I scoured Craigslist to see if anyone was trying to sell my now-stolen trike, and we found a very similar one.
After much squinting, we knew it was not Gunny: It had gears, the gears were covered, a bigger seat, a smaller basket, and the Columbia logo in a serif font... Sigh.
The happy ending to the story?JON SURPRISED ME WITH THAT VINTAGE TRIKE! So I got, not one, but TWO vintage trikes for my birthday. Proof, again, that he is THE BEST husband ever. Ta-dah! Meet vintage trike #2. I will name it: The Avenger.
Meet my vintage tricycle, #2: The Avenger!
And since people like to know what I'm wearing:
Anna Sui for Anthropologie Dress
Vintage 70s Gucci Belt, passed down from my mom
Vintage 70s Gucci Cluch (in the basket), passed down from my mom
