My Fabulous Find at Sammy D Vintage during the Shop & Bop Sale!

Sammy Davis, at her booth during the Shop & Bop Event

A couple sundays ago, I visited Sammy Davis, Sweet Virginia and other fabulous sellers at the Shop & Bop event in the Lower East Side.

I browsed the booths and found one of my favorite finds - ever: a gorgeous 50s/early 60s butterfly print dress from Hawaii! Why is this the best find ever you ask? LOOK AT IT:

Vintage 60s Butterfly Dress from Sammy D Vintage

Trying on the butterfly dress I found at Sammy D Vintage - fyi, I never changed back in to my clothes...

Well, now that you've seen it, I don't think I need to explain myself. But let me indulge: Love the butterfly print, love the one-shoulder sihouette, and even more – love the 3D cuout butterflies on the one shoulder!!! They look like some spring butterflies just happened to land on my shoulder, creating a charming effect.

I saw it the dress Sammy's mannequin, and asked her if I could try it on. She graciously took it off the mannequin, pre-emptively apologizing in case it didn't fit - it's a size 14... But it's a vintage size 14, which means it's a LOT smaller than a modern 14. Plus who knows if the previous owner had it altered (which was very common in those times)? I decided to try my luck. And lucky me, it fit! I didn't even take it off after trying it on, and just put the outfit I was wearing in my giant purse and decided to start enjoying this beauty of a dress!

Shop and Bop Event Mimi d N Belt Buckles

Collectible, interchangeable belt buckles from Sammy D Vintage

Initially, the plan was for me to go check out some of Sammy's interchangeable belt buckles, because I collect them and she mentioned she had some by designer Mimi di N. But, after blowing my budget with the dress, I had to pass on the buckles (for now). Kind of regretting not getting the coiled rope one (bottom left corner) - with a red strip, it would perfect a nautical-inspired outfit of a simple seersucker dress... tempting.

In fact, there was many more tempting items throughout the sale. More pictures below.

Greta Guide Interviews Sammy D Vintage

The ever-stylish Greta Guide recently interviewed Sammy of Sammy D Vintage, one of my favorite local vintage sellers.

We were so excited that Sammy mentioned Market Publique as her favorite new site to shop vintage online!! Thank you Sammy! Plus check out all her tips on what to look for in vintage shops.

Sammy Davis on Greta Guide

Sammy D loves MP! (say it outloud, it rhymes.)

If you haven't checked out Sammy's collection, make sure you visit her at The Brooklyn Flea. I've scored many a fabulous (and affordable!) find from her, including both of these sequined pieces that I've worn to our last two events. After all, Sammy is the queen of sequins! Check out the 10lbs. of sequins she wore to the Stylecaster party, if you don't believe me!

Tons of Fun at the Bust Craftacular

Market Publique selling vintage at the Bust Craftacular

The Bust Craftacular was tons of fun! Great music was spinning (we heard some awesome vintage tunes!), lots of people to meet and talk to, and we sold some great vintage pieces, while still getting to hang out, chat, and drink a beer (or two). Not a bad way to spend a Sunday, if I do say so myself!

Thank you for coming by to visit us!!

Most photos by Kate Sims (the bright and good ones are hers, the three kinda crappy ones I took with my lil' point and shoot...).

We had our booth in the corner, next to the bar - a great way to meeet people. Traci, who is featured on our latest postcard, came to help us. We both dressed in all-out black sequins!

We brought more sequins for everyone too, and tons of cozy, cuddly sweaters. And a Bonnie Cashin coat!

We had a great turnout, as you can see! Thank you everyone for all your support on our first Bust Craftacular ever!

Here's me in my sequins! I got this amazing blazer from Sammy D Vintage, who was so super nice to write this awesome post about us and helped us spread the word. Thank you Sammy! Not only did my outfit shine with her vintage, but she's so great!

I accessorized my sequin blazer with this adorable Santa pin, which I found thrifting during our trip to New Paltz. Did you recognize the sweater from our poster? Also from that trip!

I wore: Blazer, vintage from Sammy D Vintage. Pin, thrifted. Blouse, vintage Valentino from Fluke. Shorts, Samantha Pleet. Black tights. Bow, vintage from Market Publique.

I also opted for flat boots, and wore my trusty Loeffler Randalls, since I knew I was going to have to stand all day, plus carry tons of clothes back and forth for the set-up and break-down. Style? check. Comfort? check.

I also pretty much never drink beer (gluten issues), but it looked too delicious, since we were right next to he bar...

The bar was a great way to meet cool people, like Jessie, who makes these awesome feathered earrings (our photographer, Kate, had to get a pair!). We love how they're assymetrical.

Jessie and other cool people perused our box of scarves, racks of clothes and our small men's section.

Plus we had tons of little accessories to go with the clothes.

This girl zero-ed into this wool Southwestern print skirt by German label Mondi. She said she loves wearing all her mom's Mondi stuff from the 70s and 80s.

She tried it on, and it was meant to be! off she went, in her new vintage skirt, awesome elephant necklace and gorgeous hair. I mean seriously, can I have that hair?

Leslie came to help us out in the afternoon, and she rocked it. Soon, so soon, you'll be able to take a peek at her new collection... Stay tuned. And that awesome jacket she's wearing? Vintage 80s The Limited. Uh huh.

Blogger Jessy of Wide Awake Thoughts loved Leslie's jacket. She was visiting from Australia, and was the nicest! It was so great to meet her and her beau. If you haven't checked out her blog, I highly recommend! She puts together some mean outfits, as you can see.

Speaking of rad jackets, blogger Kim (who you may also recognize from Keiko Lynn's blog) fell in love with this gold sequined jacket. Some other lucky girl is now wearing it for New Years, as it sold right before the show ended.

We met some of the Bust people too. Everyone was super nice, helpful and accomodating. They put together a great event. Thank you Bust!

Shopping at the Brooklyn Flea

Saturday was sweltering, but Liz and I decided to brave the Brooklyn Flea.  A little birdie (a.k.a. Twitter) told us that Sammy D was going to be selling June, so we couldn't miss it. We had a really fun time trying things on and even doing an entire wardrobe change, and we scored way to many cute things for our own good.

Here's a few of our favorite booths:

Joan Van Hees

Joan's booth was right on the front, and as soon as we walked into the market we were drawn in by millions and millions of shiny sequins. She had a fabulous selection of sequined mini dresses and tops, a frothy hot pink tulle frock (I wanted it!!!), and designer shoes.

I looked through a rack of cute little sundresses, and fell in love with a black and white one that was so cute I did a wardrobe change and wore it right then and there!

Liz loved this dramatic sequined top.

vintage maud frizon

An array of designer shoes, including a super-covetable Maud Frizon pair.

vintage black and white sundress

My new acquisition: black and white sundress from Van Hees Vintage. It was lucky enough to go perfectly with my Valentino wedges, and 50s cateyes, and a vintage candy colored Murano glass necklace. And as you know, my vintage Gucci purses go with everything (according to me)!

vintage pink tulle cocktail dress

I also wanted this pink tulle dress, but it was tiny!

Dulcinée

I got so excited about the array of clothes at this booth, that I forgot to take pictures! I tried fifty million things and finally settled on a purple and white sundress with rhinestones (which I will wear to our Meetup tonight!), and the most perfect little black dress in lace. It's super Marilyn monroe, and it fit like a glove. Strapless, fitterd wtith a pencil skirt - flawless!

Liz also scored an adorable red tunic with floral cutouts, which she is also wearing today! See her outfit here.

Sammy D Vintage

The reason for this whole trip was to visit Sammy during her first foray into selling the Flea. We stopped at her booth, filled with all sorts of new goodies, including impeccable shoe clips, which I am currently obsessed with. I also finally broke down and bought a little sequined bolero that I think I've tried on every time I've been to her booth. As Liz pointed out, it would go perfectly with my new lace dress frm Dulcinée. She also bought the cutest cloisonné rope belt. You can see it on her blog!

sammy davis vintage

An array of accessories at Sammy Davis Vintage, including a shoe clip threaded with a vintage scarf, which you can wear tied around your arm or as a headband (my suggestion... be on the lookout for our upcoming post on new ways to wear vintage shoe clips, coming soon!)

liz

Liz, in front of Sammy's booth, picked up this adorable vintage bowling bag in the most unusual shade of grape. She put it down after noticing the zipper pull was missing, only to realize that it was just $10! A savvy onlooker snatched it right up and regret creeped in... Don't worry Liz, we'll find you a similar one!

sequin top

Liz helped me do the hooks and eyes on this cute little sequined top from Sammy D Vintage and I decided I had to have it! Plus the Sammy Sweltering Sale helped...

Tessi + June

Next to Sammy's booth we chatted with June at her booth, also filled with amazing goodies.

We also stoped by Alexis' booth, Funky Family Vintage. She had bright shoes and accessories on display, and all red items were on sale for $10!
