Meet My Vintage Trike!

Pamela of Market Publique on her Vintage Tricycle

Check out my new vintage tricycle! Thanks Jon!!

A few days ago, my darling hubby Jon, rang the doorbell while I was prepping dinner:

"Hey, can you come down and help me?"

Puzzled by this request, as it is usually me who is pestering him to come down and help me with too many bags of groceries or millions of cardboard boxes that probably contain vintage clothes and shoes, I ran downstairs to see what needed to be done.

When I opened the door, there he was riding atop a vintage tricycle and grinning profusely. I hugged him so hard he almost fell off the seat!

After being emotionally scarred by a  biking incident when I was around 8, I have not been a big fan of bikes. But a trike, where there's no chance of falling sideways, I'll ride. So thus, a search for a trike ensued a few weeks ago.

I was having a hard time finding a vintage one, which is what I really wanted, so I was trying to make a decision about one I saw on Amazon (bonus: free shipping). The dilemma: buy the dark blue one, or pony up an extra $60 for the exact same bike but in 'black cherry'. I felt so taken advantage of: it's like they knew a girl would be the one buying a trike and of course she'll want it in black cherry... so I hesitated.

Then, the doorbell rang... and the vintage bike was perfect! It was blue, but a much brighter, more exciting blue: sky blue or maybe even aqua. And it was VINTAGE!  Jon had bought it as a surprise for me from Craigslist, and rode it all the way back from Park Slope!

Now, I could efficiently drop off my Market Publique packages at the post office, pick up our Southside CSA deliveries, go buy wholesale coffee at the Porto Rico roasters, and discover new spots in formerly 'far away' places like Greenpoint!

Jon and I had our first official bike date last Friday, which he had off from work. First, Japanese-style brunch at the Ashbox Café in Greenpoint, which consisted of homemade tofu, a salmon rice ball, and avocado & mushroom salad. Then, more biking. And of course, we had to get an ice cream cone to celebrate the lack of rain in New York, so we stopped by the Brooklyn Ice Cream factory. It was the best!

Brunch at the Ashbox Cafe

First stop: brunch at the Ashbox Café. Of course my dress matches my bike... Vintage dress from saldy gone Bittersweet Styles. Sunglasses bought on the street. Patent leather sandals from J. Crew. You may be able to peek at my vintage 80s Gucci Joy Boston in the basket, which my used to be my grandma's (Thanks Lila!)...

Gaining speed on my vintage trike... ok, not that much speed.

Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory

Stopping to get a cone at the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory. I chose vanilla chocolate chunk; Jon chose peaches & cream. Yum!
