Market Publique on Goodreads

Yes, we actually do other things outside playing dress-up. We read. Mostly about clothes and shoes, but still! So we joined Goodreads.

Books were one of my earliest loves. I used to devour them, sometimes to the point of reading one-a-day, perched atop the avocado tree in our backyard. Mostly I read The Baby-Sitters Club and dreamt about having Claudia's wardrobe, being from California like Dawn and dotting my i's with hearts like Stacey.

My book obsession got so bad that I snuck a reading lamp under the covers ( my mom had confiscated my flashlight already), and burnt a hole through the duvet - my mom was not pleased. She was also not pleased that I wasn't hanging out with people because I read all the tim. Plus my habit was getting expensive. The lack of libraries in Guatemala, plus the fact that I had decided to only read in English, meant that all the books were bought and imported - so I was grounded and my punishment was no more than 1 imported book a week...

Eventually I grew out of my reading-only phase, but it did come back to haunt me. When I was in college, my first college boyfriend, an adorable tall and lanky guy with whom we competed to get the 'perfect homework' in Calculus class (there was a prize), who was, just like Dawn, from California, sat me down and broke up with me: he wanted more time to read, he said. This is not a joke. This really happened.

So, as you can see, my affair with reading is a long one. I am a sucker for good stories, which is probably why I love vintage so much... so many stories! I'd love to share some of my favorite books with you: some of them vintage, some about vintage, mostly about clothes with a lot of food and cooking books too... I hope you like the list!

I am always on the lookout for a good book, eventhough my subway commute is way shorter than it used to be (umm... non-existent!), so add us as a friend, and please, if you like most of the books you see on our list, suggest some I should read!
